A so-called grab bag is a quick-grab emergency bag with the most important utensils for the life raft or to otherwise disembark. It is the place where you keep important medicines or where you keep your papers during the trip. If necessary, some money or a debit card. Just think about what you would need most urgently if the ship sank and you went into the life raft. Of course, this can be different for each individual and varies depending on their health condition (e.g. medication) or cruising area (e.g. warm clothes).

What should be in the emergency grab bag?

  •   Handheld radio  - ideally with GPS/DSC
  •   Warm clothing - fleece jacket etc.
  •   First aid kit - if necessary. Additional thermal blankets and anti-seasickness tablets
  •   Pyrotechnics / signaling - e.g. rockets, LED hand flares, marine dyes and the like.
  •   Flashlight & waterproof headlamp
  • knife/ multifunctional tool - also to be able to cut the line connection to the ship if the ship sinks
  •   Emergency water / emergency rations e.g. E.g. cereal bars
  •   if necessary emergency transmitter - AIS, EPIRB etc. if necessary also already worn on the body
  •   papers/ money
The bags are waterproof and should be closed with sufficient air,to become buoyant. They are made in signal colors to be easily visible in the water. If lost they should be labeled with ship name and contact information (emergency number ashore).

The grab bags are customizable and can be ordered printed with ship name, sail number, or logos.
